Intrado’s Interim TXT29-1-1 Relay solution is a service designed to enable text-based emergency response requests in PSAPs where there currently is no direct text solution in place. The solution is available at no cost to PSAPs that have not yet deployed a direct TXT29-1-1 service and will enable individuals to contact 9-1-1 without using a voice call.
In some high priority situations, a voice call may not be the safest way to seek 9-1-1 assistance. Intrado estimates nearly half of all PSAPs in the United States have not yet implemented texting as a means to initiate a 9-1-1 response.
With the Interim TXT29-1-1 Relay solution, text-based emergency requests are processed by Intrado’s Emergency Communications Center (ECC), which is staffed by a team of highly trained 9-1-1 telecommunicators who handle thousands of 9-1-1 calls each month. Upon receiving a text, Intrado’s ECC team will relay the text message into a voice call to the appropriate geographical 9-1-1 emergency communications center.
Intrado’s Interim TXT29-1-1 Relay solution will be available at no cost for a term of six months after deployment. Upon completion of the six-month period, Intrado will continue to work with the organization to determine a long-term approach for handling text-based 9-1-1 requests.
